Diss Young Farmers are hoping to scale the UK’s highest mountains to support life-threatened children and their families in Norfolk.
On April 30, a team of Diss Young Farmers will attempt to climb Ben Nevis in Scotland, Skafell Pike in England and Snowden in Wales all in 24-hours, better known as the Three Peaks Challenge.
The team is being led by Laurence Brown, Diss Young Farmers’ charity co-ordinator, and will be joined by: Adam Clarke, James Neville, Mark Larwood, Laura Potter, Charlotte Wright, Peter Cullum, Ben Coplien, Ed Rivet, James Tilly, Annlise Ford, Barry Wright, Tom Saunders and George Router.
The team are keen to improve their fitness for the challenge and are following a strict training schedule which includes swimming, attending the Fit Club Gym in Diss and playing hockey and football. They have already raised more than £1,000 and are hoping to raise in excess of £3,000 from their efforts.
Laurence said: “We are really passionate about supporting EACH as it is a local charity which provides vital care and support to children and families who really need it.
“We are dedicated to our training and excited about our challenge. It won’t be easy, but I’m hoping we will be able to climb all three peaks in 24 hours and reach our £3,000 target.
“We’d like to say thank you to Peddars Pigs for sponsorship as well as Ames Nissan in Thetford who have loaned us two Nissan X-Trails for the trip.”
Claire Lelievre, EACH Community Fundraising Co-ordinator for South Norfolk, said: “Diss Young Farmers are incredibly dedicated fundraisers, and we would like to thank them for their efforts.
“We need to raise £4 million in donations to deliver EACH services this year, which amounts to £11,000 a day, every day of the year. This is why fundraising events such as Diss Young Farmers’ Three Peaks Challenge are so important to the charity.”
