01.Mar.11: The Big Book Exchange

1st March 2011

Book lovers of all ages in Peterborough are in for treat, as a second-hand book stall and story-telling sessions are coming to the city on March 5 and 12.

The Big Book Exchange, which has been organised by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), will see a dedicated second-hand book stall offering top books at bargain prices as well as captivating children’s story-telling sessions. These sessions will be led by actors from Peterborough’s Key Theatre, dressed in costume, as well as Dr Nigel Brown MA (Hons) OBE, High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire.

The event, which takes place at Queensgate Shopping Centre on consecutive Saturdays (March 5th and March 12th), links-in with World Book Day on March 3rd.
World Book Day is a partnership between publishers, booksellers and interested parties who work together to promote books and reading for the personal enrichment and enjoyment of all.

The book stall, which the charity is encouraging people to donate good-quality books to, will run from March 5th. Between March 5th and March 12th, a box will be at Queensgate Shopping Centre by the glass lift where books can be deposited.

The following week (Sat March 12th) EACH will be hosting a story telling day- with local actors dressing up to read children's classic books. The sessions will run from 11am til 3pm on this day.

Liz Brinsdon, EACH Corporate Fundraiser, said: “It’s great to be able to celebrate World Book Day at Queensgate by recycling books and enjoying the art of story-telling for a good cause.
“We hope we can encourage Peterborough’s residents to sort out their unwanted books and donate them to a worthy cause, as well as inspire local families with our magical story-telling sessions.”
